Way back in the 2003-2004 school year (7th grade for any of you '09 graduaters) my english teacher handed us Ironman by Chris Crutcher, and we began to read it. Now given my obsessions, I read ahead because I just can't resist the tantilizing hope of a good book. I didn't get to finish it. One of the parents believed the book was too mature for us ickle--I'm resisting the urge to say first years--seventh graders, and complained to someone. Our teacher was forced to take the book back; I took it rather hard because if given another day or so, I would have finished the book, and it was getting good. So yes, we were censored, and yes it annoyed me. And yes the book probably was a little too mature for people who were an average of twelve of thirteen years old, but it still annoyed me. But thanks to a report someone in my class gave, I learned that my literature teacher had a copy of the book, and I happily speed my way through it last night. I am satisfied.
Now on to what I am reading now. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal: a novel by Christopher Moore. So far I'm only about 90 pages in, but I love it. If you're a strong Christian of narrow outlook, you may not appreciate the humor, but if you can step away and enjoy the book, it seems like a good read. What's better is Biff really and truly reminds me of several of my friends. And I must never forget the line "May his fat crackle in the fires of hell for eternity!" Makes me think of something Bartimaeus would say.
Good bye.
